Walking in the Promise

There is something about receiving a promise from God and then having to wait for it to happen. We want things quick and for some of us, if it doesn’t come quick enough we either try to make it happen on our own or we become down thinking it won’t happen. The great thing about God’s promises is that he keeps them. Number23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie. We should be trusting of what God has promised us.

I know the feeling. I still struggle with this sometimes. It can be difficult waiting for God to do things. He gives us these awesome visions but we don’t know when exactly they are going to happen. It is a challenge. But we also have to think about the times when we have tried to make things happen on our own. They didn’t turn out too well, right? So that should make us “sat down somewhere” and let God be God.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.

The other day I was reading my bible in the book of Genesis. I have been praying and praying to God, asking him to guide every foot step because I don’t want to make any more wrong decisions. He has given me this vision, but I’m constantly afraid to move or looking at my current situation and thinking nothing is going to happen. I was reading Genesis chapter 13 in verses 14 to 17. This is where God was telling Abraham the promise that he had already given him before. He told him he would give him the land of Canaan. Then he told him to walk the land.

Jeremiah 29:11 I know the plans I have for you, dclared the Lord, Plans for welfare and not for evil, but to give you a future and hope.

As I read this, I realized God was telling me to stop worrying. Don’t try to figure out when these things are going to happen. He wants me to walk in my promise. He wants me to walk like I already have what I am about to receive. And this may be able to help someone else. We don’t have to have everything figured out. Some things are not for us to know right away. Of course we have the desire to achieve all these great things. But what happens if too much hits us at once? Or what happens if the promise comes at the wrong time? God would never give us more than we can handle. He is definitely not going to give something we are not ready for. Trust me; I’ve been trying to be ready for a lot of things. We just have to have faith that what he said is exactly what he will do.

Philippians 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

So God is saying to us that he put us on this earth for a reason. He has given us all gifts and talents. If he has put these wonderful things on the inside of us, of course he will allow us to use them. As long as we use them to glorify him and have faith Proverbs 18:16 happens, ‘a man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.’ All we have to do is walk in that.
